Minimally Invasive Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion – An Overview of its Benefits and Pitfalls

چکیده
Minimally invasive spine surgery has been on the rise in the last decade, providing the auditorium of spine surgeons with state of the art solutions to common clinical situations. Avoiding extensive soft tissue injury in miniopen Transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) resulted in measurable clinical benefits like decrease of blood loss, less pain and faster rehabilitation postoperatively. Advanced technical support and the need for superb lighting down the working corridor became imminent. Although it has been difficult to show any long-term advantages of the technique, a decrease in occurrence of adjacent segment disease might be a path to its future research. However, increased radiation exposure and learning-curve associated complications warn against embracing mini-open TLIF too enthusiastically.

Role of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery in Adults with Degenerative Lumbar Scoliosis: A Narrative Review
Background and Aim: Degenerative lumbar scoliosis is a spinal deformity resulting from advanced disc degeneration and facet arthropathy. Given the inconclusive available literature and lack of high-quality data supporting the role of minimally invasive surgical management of degenerative lumbar scoliosis, this review intends to highlight and compare the various viable minimally invasive surgica...

The authors provide an overview of the minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) procedure including indications, technique, and complications. This novel technique is a method of achieving circumferential lumbar fusion using a unilateral dorsal approach. Minimally invasive TLIF uses a tubular retractor that is inserted via a muscle-dilating exposure, thereby minimizing t...

Lumbar spinal fusions have been performed for nearly a century for a variety of spinal conditions and include posterior/posterolateral and anterior lumbar interbody fusions. Traditionally, the ability to achieve adequate exposure to perform these procedures required an open surgical approach; however, the advent of newer techniques and technology, combined with an improved understanding of surg...
